Sheriff Alex Truman has a peaceful life dealing with lost dogs, trivial disputes, and a few drunks here and there. He should be the happiest lawman in the world. But there's just one small part of him that longs for some excitement, for something that would break the monotony he doesn't even realise is eating him alive.One cold November night it seems his unspoken wishes may have been granted when he’s involved in a car accident with a man who appears suddenly in the middle of the road. The story is interesting but somewhat cliche, covering psycological horror and supernatural horror.I enjoyed it, but only by using a walkthrough. There were a few overly involved puzzles, that required precisely ordered steps, that became frustrating trying to solve. As well as the need sometimes to hunt through all rooms trying to find the next step to progress.I got this in a bundle so the price was right, and for that I recommend it. But you would need to be a big fan of this kind of game, convoluted puzzles, and story to pay full price.. Without question, this is a game you should play if you are in to point/click adventures and an immersive storyline.Well worth the time, Corrosion is extremely well written with a storyline that is so compelling that I actually found it frustrating that I couldn't solve the puzzles fast enough. That's rare for me -- hell, I played World of Warcraft for seven years and I still couldn't tell you any of the silly backstory that Blizzard concocted.The plot of the game is GENUINE psychological horror as you are charged with investigating just exactly what the hell happened at this facility. I won't spoil the game for you by disclosing any of the story line. Truly, I saw the twists coming but I didn't care, it was compelling and a wonderful distraction from life.The game is short but the puzzles can be extremely complex. Many solutions, though not intuitive given many of the mystery games you have played before, take some creative, out-of-the-box thinking. In retrospect the solutions are pretty obvious if you pay attention and if you think about it. But you'll have to concentrate and pay attention to details.Graphics are good, sounds are good -- I enjoyed the computer "interface" as you "connect" to the Net. If you aren't a fan of point-and-click adventures you ain't gonna like the graphics or sound on this. It's a product that does its engine, Wintermute, a great service. Especially considering it's open source.Replay value is, obviously, low. If you go back and read fiction novels two or three times, you might find yourself doing that with this game as well. Who knows, in a couple of years I might want to experience the Cold Water experiment again.Heartily recommended, worth the time and the money. One of the few times I've felt so positive about recommending a game.Okay, so one spoiler -- SPOILER ALERT (sort of): If the government had just done their research they would have found that Milgram was already carrying out this kind of experiment.. Right, so I am a huge fan of horror games, and when I saw a new one that had apparently come out of nowehere, I was excited to see what it held in store for me.The first thing, the fact that it is a point and click horror wasn't quite to my taste. Now I know that some people love point and click horror games, but it just didn't feel right. Eh, mixed point on that. But then we get into the actual gameplay and hoo man.The puzzles start off mildly complex and require you to flex your brain, and only get more intense from there. I won't outright say what they are, but one puzzle that comes aout.. a quarter of the way in, and serves as your introduction to what ends up being a core component of the gameplay, was rather absurdly difficult and nearly had me give up on the game then and there. I managed to perservere though, with the help of a walkthrough.... a walkthrough that was written back in 2012. Over three years ago. Welp. Seems like this didn't come out of nowehre after all, just out of nowhere to me.But yes, the puzzles which had been slightly difficult before get more and more so, and end up requiring you to wander back and forth throughout the area of the game you've already explored, to find what has changed after you solve a pzzle. I wouldn't have minded this as much, if there had been clues on where you were supposed to go. There weren't.Then there's the fact that this walkthrough from three years ago exists. I don't mind that, but the edition available here is supposedly the 'enhanced edition'. Nothing at all had changed from the experience the walkthrough guide had, as all his solutions were the exact same in this game. Maybe the graphics updated or gameplay changed between the two version, but for nearly seven dollars, this game felt like a rip off.TL;DR: Point and click obtuse puzzler from years ago. Buy the original if you want to play, it's probably cheaper.. I really enjoyed this game. In short, if you like point'n'click puzzle/mystery games, I'd recommend this to you.I found Corrosion to be much more heavily focused on the puzzle element than the horror, with most of the "horror" aspect presented through the story/lore/history rather than in-your-face frights. That's not a negative, though. Just letting you know.The game took me about 5-6 hours to complete. I found most of the puzzles to be reasonable. However, as with most puzzle games like this there were definitely moments in which certain things could be solved easily in reality but the game requires a more complicated approach. For example, there are certain locked doors with glass windows that you need keycards and numeric codes in order to open, even though you have a sledgehammer in your inventory and could easily smash through them, logically. Overall, I found the puzzles engaging and solutions rewarding... mostly XDAh, one important thing worth noting is that this game only seems to run at 1280x720. According to the discussions, this cannot be changed.All things considered, I'd easily recommend this to someone who like point'n'click puzzle adventure games. Oh. I already said that.. I bought this game for $0.79 and that was too much. I can't tell you if this game has a good story, I can tell you I got so angry playing this game I uninstalled it and went to watch cat video's instead. I would return it if I could but I bought it in December. The places you have to click are incredibly specific, and there are times that there is no visual clue that something CAN be interacted with. Sometimes, you're interacting with something that is OFF SCREEN. On top of that, the movement is incredibly tedious. You can't just click on something in a room and go to it to examine it, you step forward, then step forward again, then turn right, then step forward, then turn left. THEN you can look at it to find out that you don't have what you need to interact with it.*Deep breath* This might have a good story, I don't know, what I do know is that the actual game-play can make you feel like an idiot because you didn't think to interact with the trashcan that you can't actually see on screen. If you do not have the patience of a saint, this is not the game for you.. story kept me interested to finish it on one sitting. hard puzzles. Update to v1.2.2: Game is updated to v1.2.2Some people were having trouble using the ESC key to access the main menu, which was preventing saving. This update allows you to press F1 instead to access the main menu. This update will ONLY work with NEW GAMES. It will not work with save games. But if you have saved your game, you won't have experienced the ESC key issue anyway, and so you can continue to play the game as normal. Thanks. Dan. :).
